“The only reason that Rob’s so happy is because he makes so much money.”

After praising a friend’s attitude, someone responded with that statement. I couldn’t wrap my mind around this comment.

I have no idea how you could be mad at someone because they worked harder than you.

why your friends are more successful

The guy in question makes lots of money because he has such a great attitude. Naturally, making good money and having a positive outlook on life will make you a happy person.

I have a few friends who are always in the same position. Nothing ever changes. They never seem to be able to catch a break. The world’s out to get them. There’s always a new person or thing to blame.

The sad thing is that these friends have access to a network of successful people. If you have friends who are crushing it in any business, you should do whatever it takes to learn from them instead of being envious or complaining about how your life isn’t fair.

Why are your rich friends more successful than you?

1. They don’t jump around without committing to anything.

“I have a new idea for you.”

There’s a guy on my Facebook who sends me this kind of message every few months. I don’t even know what to say to him anymore. He comes to me with these ideas that he wants me to get involved with. Some of the ideas are good. Some of the ideas are bad. None of them ever get tested.

You have to commit to something at some point.

You can’t be chasing fads forever. At some point you have to make a decision to go after something and then not stop until you reach your goal. Stop meandering and testing the waters. Jump in.

If you want to treat yourself to success, you have to be willing to go all in. You don’t want to be known as someone that tries and gives up at everything.

2. They don’t blame the world for their problems.

Life isn’t always going to be fair and that’s okay. Bad things happen to good people. You have to be able to get over the things that happen to you. You need to become resilient and relentless.

You have to stop blaming the world for your problems. The reality is that you can always blame an external force for every issue in your life. Your paycheck sucks? Blame your boss? Is your degree useless? Blame the government? Are you heavier than you would like to be? Blame your parents. There’s always someone out there to blame.

3. They don’t stress about conspiracy theories.

“Open up your eyes people!”

There’s a guy on my Facebook who always goes off. He posts political memes in the middle of the night and rants on every topic imaginable. I don’t even know how he finds time to go after some of the issues that he does. I don’t even know why he cares about some of these issues.

Here’s the thing: if you can’t solve something, you should sweat it. Move on and focus on what you can change. Stop worrying about things out of your control. Focus on things that you can improve. Work on yourself. Don’t worry about political issues in different countries. Improve your own life first.

4. They work when you’re partying.

I don’t want to be that guy. I’m never going to tell you that you should work 24/7. The web is filled with useless quotes about working hard. We all get it.

I’m all for trips, having a good time, and enjoying drinks with friends. I also have the other side of me. The side that works hard. It’s totally cool to hang out and party. It’s pathetic to miss out on everything because you’re always partying.

You don’t have to always be working. You just can’t be always parting. This means that you have to get your work done first. Then you can worry about partying. I want you to earn your partying. It’s okay to stay in one weekend to get things done so that you can party harder the next weekend.

On a side note, don’t harass you’re successful friends if they’re busy with something and can’t make it out to get wasted on a Thursday night.

5. They don’t care about video games or the newest TV show.

I’m all for taking some time off to catch up on your favorite shows. None of us are perfect. We all enjoy binge watching mindless entertainment.

Just notice that your successful friends likely won’t be the first to know about the newest video game or that can’t-miss TV show.

When you have a lot going on in your life, you don’t have time to worry about the things that won’t improve your life. You also won’t have time to post motivational quotes every hour.

6. They ask for help.

“I don’t think that would work.”

I once heard this. A friend was trying to help someone out with a job interview at his company and the guy blew him off. I couldn’t believe it. The guy was telling him how he got the job and the other person wasn’t even willing to listen.

Successful people always ask for help. You can’t do it alone these days. Your network is your net worth. There’s someone out there that can help you out with your situation. There’s no such thing as a totally unique situation. Someone out there has been through it before and can help you out.

It’s not the end of the world. This article wasn’t designed to put you down. I just wanted to open your eyes. You can change everything. Life’s too short to be miserable and pissed off.

I love to observe successful people. I want you to get into the habit of learning from your successful friends instead of always being jealous of them.
